In the summer, parents with little children are especially sensitive to choosing the right clothes to protect their children's health. Therefore, one of the questions they are most interested in is "What should be considered when choosing summer clothes for children?"
Yeditepe University Koşuyolu Hospital Pediatrician Dr. Fatma Tülin Şimşek listed the things to consider about choosing the right clothes for children:
Choose cotton and loose-fitting clothes: Clothes made of cotton fabric and wide sleeves should be preferred, in which babies and children can be comfortable regardless of the season. Because cotton fabrics allow children's sensitive skin to breathe in all seasons, they also create a protective and soft structure for children's skin.
Avoid wearing synthetic fabrics: Synthetic, polyester-containing fabrics that prevent the skin from breathing and cause rash and rash when sweaty and moist weather should be avoided.
Prefer light colors: The clothes we choose should not contain chemical dyes so that the skin does not have an allergic reaction. They should usually be selected from single-color, light-colored-pastel tones ( blue, yellow, green ). Dark clothing can cause an abnormal increase in temperature in children as it attracts more sunlight. Clothes made of fabrics that do not pass the ultraviolet rays produced by some companies can be preferred optionally.
The newborn period is perhaps the most sensitive period of infancy. Therefore, especially couples who have a new baby may be hesitant to choose the right outfit, especially in the summer months. Dr. Tülin Şimşek listed her suggestions on the subject as follows:
“In the summer months, it is quite difficult to protect babies. Because the temperature regulation centers in the region called the hypothalamus in the brains of newborn babies have not yet developed, they cannot maintain the appropriate body temperature compared to the high or low temperature in the environment. After 2 months, it begins to develop slowly. For this reason, a newborn baby should not be dressed too much or left naked. Since the metabolism of babies will slow down and their body temperature will decrease while they sleep, they should be covered with thin cotton covering their abdomen from under the armpits. Even if the room temperature is not too high, they should be dressed in long booted pants. Care should be taken that the products are made of %100 cotton fabric. ”
