What Is Thoracic Surgery?

Thoracic Surgery deals with the surgical treatment of diseases affecting the organs and tissues within the chest cavity, excluding the heart. Lung cancers are one of the areas in which the department works extensively, and treatment may involve open surgery or, in suitable cases, completely endoscopic surgical methods. In patients for whom surgical treatment is not possible, stent applications and endoscopic airway-opening treatments may be performed to relieve symptoms. The surgical treatment of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, which can cause pain, coldness, sensory loss, and weakness in the arms due to vascular and nerve compression, is also among the areas of practice of the Department of Thoracic Surgery.
