When we are tired and run out of energy in our daily lives, we all think about using multivitamins. But is it beneficial to use multivitamins before eating fruit and vegetables? Yeditepe University Hospitals Internal Medicine Specialists said that it may not be enough to replace vitamin complexes when they are deficient in any vitamin because they contain certain amounts of all vitamins.
Stressing that our country is rich in fruits and vegetables, Yeditepe University Hospitals Internal Medicine Specialists remarked that a person who consumes these products in normal amounts does not need to take vitamin supplements from outside. However, experts point out that people who consume little fruit and vegetables, and those who spend intense energy physically and mentally, can use vitamins. “In cases where any or a few of these vitamins are found to be deficient, replacing the missing vitamin one by one is a more accurate approach. For instance, in a deficiency due to an absorption defect, sometimes it may be more appropriate to give the vitamin through the vein or hip, rather than by mouth (oral).”
Although there are many useful components in multivitamins, they are mostly consumed in insufficient doses compared to the need, and perhaps not everyone needs every component. For these reasons, it is necessary to take the vitamins and minerals needed separately.
Underlining that healthy individuals do not need to take vitamins in addition to their food, Yeditepe University Hospitals Internal Medicine Specialists: "However, if the person has a vitamin deficiency, s/he should take additional vitamins under the control of the doctor, not depending on his/her request. Because unconsciously consumed vitamin A can lead to liver disorder; vitamin C can lead to kidney stones and stomach disorders.”
