Whether or not eggs raise cholesterol has been a topic of debate for many years. Do eggs really raise cholesterol? What is the relationship between eggs and cholesterol? Yeditepe University Hospitals Internal Medicine and Endocrinology specialist made statements on the subject.
An article compiling more than fifty years of ongoing studies was published in the November 2019 issue of the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine. 211 studies so far in this field have been evaluated and interesting findings have been found.
While there were no industry-supported studies in the 1950s and 1960s, 60% of the studies on eggs between 2010-2019 were industry-supported. 85% of all studies show that eggs raise cholesterol.
Interestingly, 49% of industry-sponsored studies have published results showing that cholesterol is not elevated. There are different reasons for this. Most of them are studies conducted in small study groups or selected patients and are experimental, not studies for the general public.
For example, college students were asked to eat 2 eggs a day for 14 weeks, and an increase was found when cholesterol was measured. However, the authors of the study reported the result positively on the grounds that this did not make statistical sense and reported that 400 mg of cholesterol consumption per day was harmless. In another study, every 4.8 mg/dl decrease in total cholesterol in adults aged 20-40 years reduces the risk of heart attack by 4% and stroke by 1%.
In 2015, the U.S. Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee issued a statement reporting that dietary cholesterol was not associated with serum cholesterol. On the other hand, in the last sentences of the report, they contradict their suggestions by writing "The suggestion that consuming as little cholesterol as possible is healthy".

It should also be noted that there may be industrial or political traces under some of them. We have seen similar situations in mindsets that have published results that have vilified olive oil in the past and then tried to create a market for corn extract oil. Healthy eating means eating everything in moderation and small amounts. This is also true when it comes to eggs, and when it comes to other nutrients.”
