Yeditepe University Hospitals Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases Specialist stated: 'Sweating is not a disease but a symptom. Sweating should be examined without any simplicity, especially because it can be a signal of hormonal diseases".
Sweating is the production of fluid by sweat glands to stabilize body temperature. Overwork is a condition that causes more fluid loss than normal and is a symptom, not a disease. Therefore, sweating should not be taken lightly.
Sweating is divided into two as general and local. While general ones are seen throughout the body, local sweating is manifested in the hands and feet. Local sweating problems are usually common in people between the ages of 18 and 30, and these young patients become stressed because their hands sweat a lot, and their hands sweat more as they get stressed. This situation may cause the person to be uneasy in social environments and may even have negative effects on the choice of job and career. Patients over the age of 30 often come with general sweating, and sweating is often a sign of a systemic disease.
Especially if there is a general increase in sweating, a systemic disease should be considered and investigated. Excessive sweating is often caused by hormonal diseases. Since sweating occurs as a result of metabolism, diseases that accelerate body metabolism especially should be investigated first. Overwork of the thyroid gland, that is, hyperthyroidism, is the systemic disease that most often causes excessive sweating. Therefore, other symptoms of this disease are palpitations, weight loss, tremor in the hands, excessive irritability, hair loss. Like hyperthyroidism, excess growth hormone and abnormal functioning of the adrenaline hormone are other hormonal diseases that cause excessive sweating. Excessive sweating may also occur in women after menopause. Since this situation manifests itself with attacks, menopause is one of the reasons to be considered among the causes of sweating in female patients. In addition, excessive weight can be considered as another cause of sweating. Patients often complain of excessive sweating that occurs with movement and sometimes at night. Sweating, especially in the head and neck area, is remarkable.
Sweating also disappears when we apply treatment for the disease that emerges in our research with examinations and tests. In our study, if it is revealed that sweating is local, botox injection is performed for 3-6 months. However, if this method does not yield results, it is possible to destroy the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands under the armpits called sympathetic blockage.
