According to a large study conducted by scientists, aspirin should never be used to prevent heart disease without the advice of a physician because it increases the risk of dangerous bleeding. Specialists agree that aspirin, which is used uncontrollably to prevent diseases, will harm a person instead of benefit.
The Internal Medicine Specialist stated that an evaluation was made by reviewing the records of people between the ages of 50 and 74 in the UK, and as a result of this evaluation, it was observed that the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding increased by more than 40 percent in people using daily aspirin. Accordingly, the benefits and harms of aspirin use have been discussed publicly. An investigation was also conducted at King's College Medical School before this study. In the study, which was based on completely healthy people, it was explained that protecting aspirin from diseases such as stroke and cardiovascular disease would not be worth it compared to the risk of bleeding. In light of these, aspirin is not recommended for the protection of individuals who are at risk for cardiovascular and stroke, which is called primary protection in the UK. However, it is a secondary protection to protect people with a history of heart attack, stenting, and paralysis with aspirin. Aspirin should be used for secondary protection."
We do not recommend uncontrolled aspirin use.
Stating that he did not recommend the use of uncontrolled aspirin due to gastrointestinal bleeding, Yeditepe University Hospital Internal Medicine Specialist recommended aspirin to prevent cardiovascular diseases within more than 30 years. Aspirin was used for nearly 15 years, especially in patients at risk of stroke. Opinions on the use of aspirin have been reported in various guidelines, but studies over time have found an increased risk of bleeding. Aspirin was again on the agenda since about 164,000 patients were screened and the health problems related to bleeding in the UK. In addition, many people take aspirin without going to a physician, even if it is not included in the guidelines. It is very important to raise public awareness that this is a very wrong practice," they said.
