Criticism came from Yeditepe University Hospitals Medical Microbiology Specialist Prof. Aynur Eren Topkaya against the disinfection of outdoor areas among the coronavirus measures.
Yeditepe University Hospitals Medical Microbiology Specialist Prof. Dr. Aynur Eren Topkaya pointed out that unnecessary use of disinfectants can also have undesirable effects. Prof. Aynur Eren Topkaya made the following statements:
- It is unnecessary to apply disinfectant to outdoor areas such as stadiums, parks, and gardens. It even harms the ecological environment. It is sufficient to disinfect vehicles such as trains, intercity buses, and airplanes, where people travel together for a long time, once after each trip.
- But more importantly, if there are people with fever, cough, and respiratory distress in these vehicles, these people should be isolated by wearing a mask. No other passengers must be seated within one meter of them.
- Unnecessary and inappropriate use of disinfectants may cause them not to be supplied when needed, especially in health institutions, and may adversely affect the pandemic management.
