Whether outdoors or at home, many of us tend to eat more on New Year's Day and night. Nutrition and Dietetics Specialist Buket Ertaş warned about New Year's Eve and stated that skipping the diet can be compensated for the next day.
Do not skip meals during the day: Emphasizing that it would be beneficial to have a light day without skipping meals before New Year's Eve, Yeditepe University Kozyatağı Hospital Nutrition and Diet Specialist Buket Ertaş reminded that breakfast is always the most important meal and said that breakfast should not be skipped in order not to eat too much on New Year's Eve.
Do not sit hungry at the table: Another way not to eat too much at the evening table is not to sit hungry at the table. In this case, lighter meals may be preferred during the day, as overeating will be inevitable. In addition to the main meals, eating snacks can help balance blood sugar, while preventing eating attacks.
Spread your food over time: Reminding that a small evening getaway will not make much difference on our health, Buket Ertaş: “However, the main thing at this point is not to eat too much. By spreading out the time and eating slowly, both quantity control can be achieved, and it will be eaten less due to the feeling of saturation.”
Make your menu green: Since it is important how much you eat and what you eat, instead of making meat-heavy choices at Christmas tables, including salads and vegetables will help protect the digestive system. Consuming carbohydrate-rich foods such as rice, pasta, soup, and bread will be important in terms of balance. If you have a wide variety of menus, make sure to consume your favorite ones. For example, if you have more than one type of fruit, choose the one you like the most. Show this care in all food groups. Choose lighter milk desserts instead of dough desserts or syrup desserts. If you drink alcohol, limit the amount you consume.
Limit nuts: Reminding that nuts, which are indispensable for New Year's Eve as well as food, are invisible sources of calories, Buket Ertaş: “Especially during pleasant conversations, the consumption of nuts increases without realizing it. Taking as much as you need to consume to prevent this will prevent the tip of the rope from escaping. However, since it is healthier, it would be a good choice to consume unroasted, raw nuts if possible.
Drink water instead of carbonated drinks: Reminding that one of the invisible calories is carbonated drinks, Buket Ertaş: “It is not right to focus on food and ignore drinks. If possible, do not consume carbonated drinks, but drink plenty of water instead. If you drink alcohol, limit it and drink plenty of water during the day, overnight, and the next day. Abundant water consumption will reduce the effect of water loss caused by alcohol intake. ”
Yeditepe University Hospitals Nutrition and Diet Specialist Buket Ertaş underlined that the diet is actually a lifestyle change rather than a list and added the following: “Many special days such as birthdays, meetings, new years, celebrations are a part of our organization life. Especially when dieting, the important thing is not to isolate yourself from them, but to consciously balance. Not participating in programs with the thought of dieting and rejecting food organizations are not sustainable behaviors. Unhappily, very restricted diets will already fail one day, and the person will return to the behaviors that caused the weight gain.”
