Incorrect eating habits disrupt the digestive system. Causes reflux, indigestion, and bloating. Dr. Meltem Ergün recommends not to overdo it when consuming coffee, chocolate, and hot pepper. There is no person who does not complain about digestive system problems. Sometimes we can experience many digestive complaints from reflux to indigestion with the foods we consume, sometimes travels, and sometimes with our changing eating pattern.
Yeditepe University Hospitals Gastroenterology Specialist Prof. Dr. Meltem Ergün stated the following about the foods that should be avoided for the regular functioning of the digestive system:
Coffee, Chocolate
Coffee and chocolate are among the foods that trigger reflux and make digestion difficult. Some of the substances contained in these foods cause reflux complaints to increase as they relax the lower end of the esophagus.
Therefore, people who are especially prone to reflux should be careful when consuming these products. In addition, taking care not to eat before going to bed at night can also help control complaints.
Milk and Milky Desserts
Lactose in milk is one of the foods that are difficult to digest because it causes bloating and gas in the stomach. Especially those in the group with lactose intolerance, which is around 5-10 percent in society, need to be more careful in this regard.
Because lactose can cause bowel problems such as diarrhea as well as stomach problems in these people. Therefore, it is recommended that those with such a sensitivity avoid milk and milk desserts, and instead meet their calcium needs with yogurt, cheese, and lactose-free milk.
Hot Red Pepper
Hot red pepper is one of the products to be considered when consuming, both because it triggers reflux and causes an increase in hemorrhoids. Even in a person with small-scale hemorrhoids, very spicy meals can cause hemorrhoids to grow or even bleed. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid red hot pepper when preparing meals and to take care to prepare as little spicy as possible when preparing meals.
Legumes
Legumes are among the foods that contain the most iron after meat. For this reason, experts recommend consuming legumes, especially in the age of development. However, since people with a slow digestive system can hardly digest these foods, they need to be careful when consuming them. It is also beneficial not to be preferred especially at dinners.
Cabbage, Leaves and Derivatives
Due to the intense cellulose in it, cabbage and leaf digestion are among the most difficult foods. These products are not digested in the stomach in any way, they are only broken down and removed from the body. Constipation can develop, especially if people with digestive problems consume these foods too much. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the amount of food such as cabbage and leaves.
Fried Foods
Fries, which are indispensable for the summer months, also take their place at the corner of the table. However, when the food is fried, it becomes difficult to digest and can cause some chemicals to be released. For this reason, it is necessary to prefer cooking foods in the oven or by boiling, rather than frying them.
The Formula for Healthy Eating: Mediterranean Cuisine
Gastroenterology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meltem Ergün underlines that in order to avoid problems in the digestive system in the summer months we are in, it is necessary to consume plenty of fluids, eat fruit, provided that it is not too much, and prefer fibrous foods. She explains that not consuming fish, chicken, and red meat more than one meal a day, preferring a Mediterranean-style diet and doing plenty of exercise also relieves digestion.
