Prof. Meltem Ergün, MD, was born in Tekirdağ, Türkiye, in 1974. She graduated from the Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine in 1995. In 2003, she worked as a Specialist in Internal Medicine at Etimesgut State Hospital. In 2007, she completed her fellowship in Gastroenterology at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine.

Between 2007 and 2010, Prof. Ergün received advanced training in interventional gastroenterology, including ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography), EUS (Endoscopic Ultrasound), and EMR (Endoscopic Mucosal Resection), at Saint-Luc University Hospital in Belgium. She also trained in endoscopy and interventional endoscopy at Natividad Medical Center in Monterey, California, USA, between 2002 and 2003.

From 2010 to 2012, she served as a Gastroenterology Specialist at Türkiye Yüksek İhtisas Hospital. Between 2012 and 2014, she worked as a Chief Assistant at Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital. In 2014, she was awarded the title of Associate Professor by Ankara University Faculty of Medicine.

Since 2014, Prof. Ergün has been serving as a faculty member in the Division of Gastroenterology at Yeditepe University.

Prof. Ergün is a member of the Turkish Society of Gastroenterology, the Turkish Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the European Group for Endoscopic Ultrasonography (EGEUS), the EUS Turkey Working Group, the Turkish Association for the Study of the Liver, the Turkish Society of Gastrointestinal Motility, the Eurasian Gastroenterology Association, and the Turkish-Azerbaijani Association of Endoscopic Surgeons.
