Career Summary: 

Prof. Dr. Can Yücel Karabay graduated from İnönü University Faculty of Medicine and completed his cardiology specialization training at Koşuyolu Heart Education and Research Hospital. He became an Associate Professor in 2014 and a Professor in 2019. He has participated in national and international training programs in structural heart diseases and interventional cardiology. Following consecutive trainings in Belgium and the Netherlands in 2011, he obtained his certificate in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI). In 2014, he served as an observer physician at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. In 2015, he received training in left atrial appendage (LAA) closure at Bordeaux University Hospital and earned certification in this field.
Prof. Dr. Can Yücel Karabay has held various roles within the Turkish Society of Cardiology. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Society of Cardiology Interventional Cardiology Association between 2017–2022, and as a member of the Main Board of Directors of the Turkish Society of Cardiology from 2023–2026. In 2024, he qualified for the EAPCI Board Certificate from the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI) of the European Society of Cardiology and currently serves on the EAPCI Board Committee. He also holds the title of "Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology" (FESC) awarded by the European Society of Cardiology. Continuing his work in academic publishing, Prof. Dr. Can Yücel Karabay serves as an Associate Editor for the Anatolian Journal of Cardiology.
He serves as a proctor (i.e., trainer and supervising physician) at both national and international levels for TAVI, LAA closure, and non-surgical closure of congenital heart defects (such as ASD, VSD, PFO, PDA). Through his training and proctorship support, he has contributed to more than 50 centers actively initiating TAVI procedures, and approximately 20 centers beginning LAA and non-surgical heart defect closure procedures.
Between 2015–2026, he worked at Dr. Siyami Ersek Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Education and Research Hospital, during which he held positions as Chief Resident, Faculty Member, and Clinic Chief. Since 2026, he has continued to provide care for his patients at Yeditepe University Kozyatağı Hospital.
