Dr. Uğur Türe graduated from Ankara Deneme High School and graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1987. He completed his specialty training in Neurosurgery at Istanbul Şişli-Etfal Training and Research Hospital. During and after his residency training, he studied microsurgery and surgical neuroanatomy at Zurich University Hospital under the supervision of Prof. Dr. M. Gazi Yaşargil. After his residency training, he worked as a specialist in the Department of Neurosurgery at Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital between 1993 and 1995. Then, between 1995 and 1997, he continued his surgical neuroanatomy studies at Arkansas Medical University under the supervision of Prof. Dr. M. Gazi Yaşargil and Prof. Ossama Al-Mefty. He returned to Türkiye in August 1997 and started to work as an assistant professor at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery. Dr. Uğur Türe was promoted to Associate Professor in November 1999 and continued his studies at Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University, Department of Neurosurgery between 2003 and 2005. He was promoted to Professor in March 2005. In August 2005, he established the Department of Neurosurgery at Yeditepe University Hospital and continues to work as the head of the department. Dr. Uğur Türe continues to work on surgical neuroanatomy and surgical techniques. He has authored articles in the world's leading neurosurgical journals and book chapters. Since his residency training, Dr. Türe has received important awards for his work on neuroanatomy and surgery of the brain. During his neuroanatomy studies in Zurich, the dissection of the white matter of the brain became his special interest, and by performing these dissections for the first time under a surgical microscope and using the aspiration dissection technique for the first time, Dr. Türe developed a teaching method in which the anatomy of the white matter was demonstrated by systematic dissection. With this method, he continues his studies to show the anatomy of the white matter and its surgical importance to the neurosurgical community with the courses he has given in various centers of the world within the framework of a discipline and the demonstrations he has made in the laboratories he has visited. With these courses, he continues his mission to teach white matter anatomy to more than 1000 neurosurgeons. In 2008, he established the Surgical neuroanatomy laboratory at Yeditepe University Hospital, where he has been working since 2005, and continues his studies on the white matter anatomy of the brain here. Since then, researchers from various countries around the world have been coming to Dr. Uğur Türe to continue their clinical and laboratory training. Since 2010, he has been regularly contributing to the training of neurosurgeons from all over the world with his teacher Prof. Dr. M. Gazi Yaşargil with the "Istanbul Microneurosurgery Course", which offers basic microsurgery training, dissection, and training of white matter anatomy and live surgery parts together for the first time.
In addition to his educational mission, he also continues his administrative duties. Prof. Dr. Uğur Türe served as "Deputy Chairman of the Turkish Neurosurgical Association" between 2010 and 2012 and then as "Chairman of the Turkish Neurosurgical Association" between 2012 and 2014. During this period, he organized the most important event in the history of Turkish Neurosurgery with the organizing committee as the president of the "World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) 16th Neurosurgery World Congress". Dr. Türe is currently the honorary president of the WFNS. In addition, Dr. Türe is a member of many prestigious associations such as "The American Academy of Neurological Surgery", "The World Academy of Neurological Surgery," and "The European Academy of Sciences and Arts", where a limited number of neurosurgeons from all over the world are selected and accepted as members. Dr. Uğur Türe has been on the editorial board of the most prestigious medical journals in his field such as "Neurosurgical Review", "Operative Neurosurgery" and "Neurosurgery" for many years. One of the most important books he is on the editorial board of is "Youmans&Winn; Neurological Surgery" 7th Edition, 2016. In the field of neurosurgery, Dr. Uğur Türe has focused on the surgical treatment of nervous system tumors and vascular diseases as well as epilepsy surgery and continues to contribute to the education of medical students, medical specialty students, and neurosurgical specialists from all over the world. He has a special interest in the importance of knowledge of neuroanatomy and the development of innovative surgical approaches and techniques in neurosurgery in order to develop more advanced techniques that will contribute to the treatment of patients and improve their quality of care.
