Organ Transplant Coordinators... They are the heroes behind the scenes of the life-saving organ transplant processes. 60 organ transplant coordinators from 30 countries met in istanbul at the International Organ Transplantation Coordinators Training Course...
The course was organized within the scope of the International Organ Transplantation Network Project supported by istanbul Development Agency (ISTKA). During the course supported by the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) and the University of Health Sciences, Turkish doctors and organ transplant coordinators shared their knowledge and experiences. Participants coming from Afghanistan, Albania, Belarus, Croatia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Georgia, Hungary, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Mongolia, Palestine, Romania, Senegal, Sudan, Tanzania and the United Arab Emirates, told about the shortcomings of their countries. And they also got the information they need.
During the course, topics such as brain death diagnosis, organ supply, its conservation and transfer, informing the family and persuasion, ethics in organ transplantation were discussed. The participants learned these processes from Turkish experts on practical basis.
Participants also visited Yeditepe University Koşuyolu Hospital and International Organ Transplantation Network Centre. Ali details of the organ transplant process were explained to the participants with simulation device which is located in his centre.
