It is a serious poisoning that develops as a result of fresh, dried, or canned raw or cooked eating of cap mushrooms that grow in natural areas and have poisonous substances in their structure and can result in death. Mushroom poisoning occurs especially in the spring and autumn.
It should not be forgotten that there are also poisonous mushrooms grown in natural areas in Türkiye.
Treatment of mushroom poisoning is aimed at the symptoms of poisoning. Information about poisonings can be obtained from the National Poison Information Center. Antidotes can be obtained from the General Directorate of Emergency Health Services (UZEM - National Poison Information Center).
A significant proportion of poisonings can actually be prevented by very simple measures. In this context, mushroom poisoning is a type of poisoning that can be prevented very simply, and the only remedy to prevent poisoning is that mushrooms grown in natural areas are definitely not eaten, instead, culture mushrooms are preferred.
Poisoning with cultured mushrooms is not possible. However, these mushrooms can come into contact with some microorganisms in the environment where they are grown. It should not be forgotten that as a result of eating raw mushrooms infested with this microorganism, mild stomach, and intestinal complaints may develop.
When buying mushrooms, preference should be given to those packaged; it should also be noted whether there are labels on the packaging with some information to inform the consumer.
