How Mushroom Poisoning Happens?
It is a serious poisoning that develops as a result of fresh, dried, or canned raw or cooked eating of cap mushrooms that grow in natural areas and have poisonous substances in their structure and can result in death. Mushroom poisoning occurs especially in the spring and autumn.

What are the Symptoms of Mushroom Poisoning?
- The symptoms of poisoning vary depending on the nature of the poison found in the mushroom. Symptoms may appear after 2 to 6 hours.
- Findings 2 hours after ingestion of poisonous mushroom;
- Dizziness, the tendency to sleep, low blood pressure, blurred vision, flushing of the face and neck, increased pulse, sweating with a metal taste in the mouth, nausea, and vomiting.
- Symptoms of intoxication that may develop soma for 6 hours include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, increased pulse, abdominal pain, liver, and kidney failure. In the end, coma and death may also be in question.
Is There a cure for Mushroom Poisoning?
Treatment of mushroom poisoning is aimed at the symptoms of poisoning. Information about poisonings can be obtained from the National Poison Information Center. Antidotes can be obtained from the General Directorate of Emergency Health Services (UZEM - National Poison Information Center).
How to Protect Yourself from Mushroom Poisoning?
A significant proportion of poisonings can actually be prevented by very simple measures. In this context, mushroom poisoning is a type of poisoning that can be prevented very simply, and the only remedy to prevent poisoning is that mushrooms grown in natural areas are definitely not eaten, instead, culture mushrooms are preferred.
Are Culture Mushrooms Poisonous?
Poisoning with cultured mushrooms is not possible. However, these mushrooms can come into contact with some microorganisms in the environment where they are grown. It should not be forgotten that as a result of eating raw mushrooms infested with this microorganism, mild stomach, and intestinal complaints may develop.
When buying mushrooms, preference should be given to those packaged; it should also be noted whether there are labels on the packaging with some information to inform the consumer.
What Is the Wrong Information about Mushrooms?
- There are also common beliefs among the public about mushrooms that are mentioned below and have no scientific value:
- Mushrooms eaten with yogurt do not poison.
- The poison will be removed from the cooked mushroom.
- The poison of the mushroom is taken by boiling in vinegar and salt water.
- There is no poisoning with the consumption of dried mushrooms.
- Mushrooms grown in meadows are not poisonous.
- If the color does not change when the mushroom is removed from the ground, the mushroom is non-toxic; if the interior of the mushroom becomes blue, this mushroom is poisonous.
- Mushrooms in trees are nontoxic.
- If the poisonous mushroom is cooked with a silver spoon, the spoon will go black.
- Snails do not eat poisonous mushrooms.
