Yeditepe University Development and Training Center (YÜGEM) is a center for children and adolescents between the ages of 0-18 who show differences or retardation from the normal development process in one or more of the mental, sensory, physical, verbal, behavioral, and emotional areas. In cases that may be encountered during development such as autism spectrum disorders, mental disability, language, and speech disorders, specific learning disorders, attention deficit, and hyperactivity disorder , YÜGEM provides service with its personnel equipped in diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment processes.
Today, the problems experienced during child development, called developmental disorders, are more frequently detected with the increasing awareness in society and the rate of individuals diagnosed is increasing. For this purpose, hospitals and special education and rehabilitation centers serve children and adolescents in the diagnosis and treatment of these developmental disorders.
However, due to some difficulties, especially at the diagnosis stage, families may have to consult more than one center and specialist to be diagnosed correctly.
The main source of this condition is due to the fact that developmental disorders may show different symptoms in each child and these symptoms can be seen together.
As with autism spectrum disorder, how problems in development are seen in different individuals of society spans a wide spectrum. Children diagnosed with the same "disorder" may show different symptoms and may have different levels of skills in different areas. Equally, children with seemingly similar symptoms may experience fundamentally different developmental problems. In addition, there is no obligation to diagnose each individual with a developmental disorder. The problems observed may be caused by physical, neurological, biological, or psychological reasons other than any developmental disorder.
Therefore, in order to reach a healthy and comprehensive diagnosis and evaluation; it is necessary to benefit from multiple disciplines such as pedagogy, child health and diseases, child psychiatry, and neurology and to reveal the cause of the problems experienced.

What Kind of a Diagnosis and Treatment Process
What distinguishes YÜGEM from other centers working on these issues is that it provides service within the Yeditepe University Bagdat Street Polyclinic and has a very comprehensive diagnosis and evaluation team.
The person who applies to YÜGEM undergoes the necessary examinations and tests by a team consisting of different specialties such as a pediatrician, pediatrician, neurologist, ophthalmologist, otorhinolaryngologist, hearing disorders (audiology) specialist, a psychologist at the diagnosis stage. Thus, instead of a hasty and generalized diagnosis, the type and causes of the problems observed are investigated and the diagnosis is clarified. In the subsequent evaluation phase, one-on-one interviews are made with the individual by specialists working in the fields of special education, child/adolescent psychiatry, and child/adolescent psychology, and the treatment process is shaped according to the individual's levels in various fields. Providing all services from the same place in YÜGEM accelerates the processes. However, experts from different disciplines can easily share their observations and opinions about the applicant.
During the treatment phase, different types of therapy and training are applied by pedagogues, clinical psychologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and special education specialists working within YÜGEM. In this process, we work in cooperation with the family. The family is also informed and trained on the subject at regular intervals. Another feature that distinguishes YÜGEM from other similar centers is that the diagnosis and treatment process of each case is determined as a result of periodic meetings and consultations held by YÜGEM employees. Thus, a multidisciplinary process is carried out.
