Gynecology and Obstetrics Specialist Prof. Dr. Rukset Attar warned women who want to have egg freezing early. She stated, "The ideal age for egg freezing is between 35-40. The age at which the egg is frozen affects egg quality and pregnancy success. There is a 30-60 percent success rate after the procedure."
Yeditepe University Kozyatağı Hospital Gynecology and Obstetrics Specialist Prof. Dr. Rukset Attar stated that egg freezing can be a solution for women who think of conceiving in the following years and postpone having children for many different reasons such as career and illness, and stated that the procedure is also applied in people with low egg reserve and risk of early menopause.
Freezable for 5 Years; Consider the Age
Stating that the ideal age for the procedure is between 35-40, Yeditepe University Hospitals Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist Prof. Dr. Rukset Attar stated, "Egg freezing age is very important. Because age is one of the most important factors affecting egg quality and pregnancy success. After the egg freezing process, there is a 30-60 percent success rate after the egg is thawed and meets with sperm."
Prof. Dr. Attar reminded that the disease and the treatment applied gain importance in people who will undergo egg freezing due to the disease other than age, and added, "For example, if the patient is going to receive chemotherapy, she needs to freeze her eggs before the treatment, regardless of her age. Or, according to the general condition of the patient, we can perform egg freezing when we see the risk. We can freeze the eggs for up to 5 years."
It Can Also Be Performed during IVF Procedure
Stating that egg freezing can also be applied in women with low egg reserve, risk of early menopause, and receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy, Prof. Dr. Attar stated, "We can also apply this procedure if extra eggs develop during IVF procedures."
It Is Also Successful In Those With Low Egg Reserve
Stating that egg freezing is performed with a method similar to in vitro fertilization, Prof. Dr. Attar stated, "On the 2nd and 3rd day of menstruation, we examine the patient's hormones and the number of eggs and perform the necessary tests. Then we give the drugs used for IVF and request follow-up on certain days. During the follow-up, we examine the size of the eggs by ultrasound. We collect the eggs that have reached a certain size under general anesthesia for 34-36 hours from the hatching needle. If the egg reserve is very low and she will not be conceiving in the future, we ensure conceivability in the future. Healthy babies can be born,"
With Quick Freeze, the Chances Get Even Better
Stating that two methods, fast and slow, are available in the egg freezing process, Yeditepe University Hospitals Gynecology Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist Prof. Dr. Attar stated, "Studies show that the quality and pregnancy rate of eggs frozen by vitrification, i.e. fast freezing method, are superior. We also use the vitrification method to freeze excess embryos in IVF treatment."
Early Freezing Affects the Chance of Success
Prof. Dr. Attar emphasized that age and success rate are parallel and stated, "After the egg freezing process, there is a pregnancy success between 30-60 percent after the egg is thawed and meets with sperm. The most important factor affecting this is the age at which the egg is frozen. The earlier the patient freezes it, the higher the success chance."
