Among the causes of infertility, there are both male and related factors. Therefore, before starting treatment, in-depth research is carried out on both men and women to determine the underlying cause.
Age is a very important factor among the causes of female infertility. Many factors, especially in recent years, such as the postponement of the age of marriage and the fact that women prefer older ages to get pregnant, constitute an important factor in infertility. Because with age, the egg quality of the woman decreases significantly with the egg reserve. However, many factors can cause infertility.
By the time women reach their mid-30s, they are less likely to become pregnant and more likely to have a miscarriage because egg quality decreases as the number of eggs decreases. Therefore, a woman's age is considered the most accurate test of egg quality. A significant change in egg quality is the frequency of genetic abnormalities called aneuploidy (too many or too few chromosomes in an egg). As a woman ages, most of her eggs have either too few or too many chromosomes. This means that if fertilization occurs, there will be too many or too few chromosomes in the embryo.
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is a fairly common condition in which the hormone balance affecting women of reproductive age is disrupted. It occurs in 5-12% of women. An imbalance and structural difference are observed in the hormone production of the ovaries involved in the production of estrogen and progesterone.
The management of early menopausal patients with child desire is a challenging situation for IVF physicians. While no treatment can be recommended for these patients until recently with the current literature knowledge, PRP injection treatment (ovarian rejuvenation) to the ovaries that have emerged in recent years has been a promising treatment for these patients and IVF physicians.
Infections due to infertility due to tubal factor are the most common. Other common causes are endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, sexually transmitted diseases (most commonly chlamydia and gonorrhea), ectopic pregnancy and history of previous surgery. All of these can cause damage to the tubes.
Patients who cannot have sexual intercourse due to vaginismus are also admitted to our IVF center. IVF treatment can be applied to these patients. However, vaginismus treatment should be started before considering IVF treatment. Treatment of vaginismus is carried out by obstetricians and psychiatrists who have received training and certification on sexual dysfunctions.
There are several theories that endometriosis causes infertility: First, the inflammation it creates produces substances called cytokines, which affect sperm and eggs, making fertilization difficult. Secondly, scar tissue formation and adhesion formation may cause clogging of the tubes. Another reason may be that the endometriosis tissue on the ovary complicates ovulation, making it difficult for the egg to release.
The diagnosis of low ovarian reserve is made by ultrasound and blood test in the first days of menstruation. The sooner it is diagnosed, the higher the chance of pregnancy. Therefore, in women under the age of 35, the duration of consulting a doctor in terms of infertility is recommended as 1 year, while women over the age of 35 who have not been pregnant for 6 months should apply to an IVF specialist without waiting any longer.
