You are about to hold your baby in your arms. Your excitement is increasing. You have reached the 33rd week of pregnancy week by week. So, what are the changes in the mother and baby in the 33rd week of pregnancy? How big is the baby in the 33rd week of pregnancy? What does a 33-week baby look like?
Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yeditepe University Hospitals and IVF Specialist Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar explained what happened in the 33rd week of pregnancy and answered the curious questions:
Your baby weighs about 1.9 kilograms. The head-to-heel length is about 43.7 centimeters.
Your baby's brain will continue to develop during the last 3 months of your pregnancy, but after birth, it will be much stronger as all its senses will be stimulated.
Your baby's arms and legs are chubby now, thanks to the fatty tissue that has accumulated under the skin. The skull is soft and flexible and the layers that make up the bones of the skull are not yet fused. If you have a vaginal delivery, the layers of your baby's skull will move to allow your baby to pass through your birth canal.
After birth, you can see or gently feel the areas of unconnected bone in your baby's head (the fontanelles). The fontanelles will not close until your baby is about 18 months old. Throughout childhood, the layers of bone in the skull will remain flexibly connected and continue to make room for the growing brain.
If your milk has started to come in, there is no need to worry. In fact, your milk glands have started producing colostrum (your baby's first milk) since the 14th week of your pregnancy.
