Women's Health, Obstetrics, and IVF Specialist Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar stated that approximately 190 million women worldwide have to live with endometriosis and its related pelvic pain. He provided information about the Electromagnetic Stimulation method that has started to be used for this group of patients. Prof. Dr. Attar explained that endometriosis, which can be seen in about one out of ten women worldwide, manifests with chronic pelvic pain and menstrual pain, but due to limited social awareness about the disease, there is often a delay in the diagnosis process.
Women's Health, Obstetrics, and IVF Specialist Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar stated that they have achieved positive results in pain treatment for endometriosis and pelvic pain using the 'Electromagnetic Stimulation' method. Prof. Dr. Attar mentioned that the method, which is used in different fields, is relatively new in the treatment of endometriosis, and it aims to relieve pain through vibrations given at frequencies suitable for endometriosis foci. He also emphasized that this method is non-invasive, making it easy and reliable.
Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar stated that electromagnetic stimulation therapy may also provide benefits in cases of infertility. He said, "When patients were given specific amounts of electromagnetic stimulation, there were increases in uterine thickening. Studies on the effects of electromagnetic stimulation therapy in this area and cases of ovarian insufficiency are still ongoing."
"Women Are Forced to Live with Serious Pain That Diminishes Quality of Life."
Endometriozis, Yeditepe University Hospitals' Obstetrics and IVF Specialist Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar emphasized that it can occur at any stage of life, including menopause, although it is more common in women of reproductive age. He continued, "These women experience severe pain in the abdomen, pelvis, vagina-vulva, musculoskeletal system, and bladder. In fact, this widespread pain can also lead to various stomach and intestinal problems. 30% of women struggle with infertility, and they can experience severe pain during sexual intercourse. This naturally significantly affects their social life and even their marital life. Anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders can also be observed in patients with endometriosis. Based on the results of pain treatment in endometriosis patients, we are making progress."
“The treatment is based on providing vibrations to the target tissues of the patient”
Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar stated that even though endometriosis patients are treated with medication or surgery, there is a high risk of the pain recurring. Therefore, different treatment methods may be required at different times. He explained that Electromagnetic Stimulation therapy, which is relatively new in this field, is one of the current treatment approaches.
Prof. Dr. Atar mentioned that this method is a "simple" treatment that doesn't burden the patient much and provides quick results. Regarding its application, he provided the following information: "Electromagnetic Stimulation therapy is based on providing vibrations to the target tissues of the patient at certain intervals and for a specific duration. The electromagnetic stimulation device we use is a product of engineering and medical research conducted at Seoul University. Similar to acupuncture treatment, there is no direct surgical or invasive application on the patient. We only apply electromagnetic frequencies to the patient within specific time frames and power ranges. When the patient comes with various complaints, we can apply this treatment without the need for other branches of medicine."
“It is applied without taking much of the patient's time”
Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar emphasized that in order to achieve the desired results and improve the patient's quality of life, it is necessary to have 6 to 10 regular sessions within the first month. He said, "In this treatment, it is important for the patient to allocate time and come regularly. If we get positive results after the first month, we can stop the treatment and repeat it after a while. Since it is a treatment spread over time, it can be repeated when needed."
“Endometriosis is one of the most significant diseases that can cause infertility.”
Prof. Dr. Attar emphasized that in Turkey, the diagnosis of endometriosis is often made in association with infertility complaints. He continued: "Because women in Turkey are not sensitive to pain and generally do not dwell on the pain they experience. There are misconceptions like 'It will get better after marriage, it will get better after giving birth.' However, if endometriosis is not diagnosed early and progresses, it can affect women both socially and in terms of work capacity. This can lead to psychological problems and significantly decrease the quality of life. It is one of the most important diseases causing infertility. However, since it is a chronic condition, it is important for women to learn to live with this situation."
“We have research on the use of in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment and egg insufficiency.”
"Speaking about some endometriosis patients, there may be difficulties in the embryo's attachment or implantation in the uterus. In such cases or in cases of thin uterine lining in IVF treatments, we believe that the Electromagnetic Stimulation method may be beneficial," said Prof. Dr. Attar, continuing, "Moreover, we have observed that this treatment can be successful in cases of premature ovarian insufficiency. If these patients come to us for IVF purposes, we start with a treatment of 3-6 sessions. This method, which is relatively new worldwide for pain management, is being increasingly used. Our research on its use, especially in the field of infertility, is ongoing."
