Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar, Head of the Department of Gynecology And Obstetrics at Yeditepe University Hospitals, said that the risk of catching Covid-19 in pregnant women does not seem higher than in the general population. On the other hand, pregnant women also need to be careful in order to be protected from infection.
Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar said, “There is no risk for the child in the womb in pregnant women infected with Covid-19 without showing any symptoms. Babies of mothers with positive test results must have a test. Virus-positive mothers need to inform their physicians and healthcare teams about this.”
Explaining that there is no scientific data that Covid-19 causes premature birth in pregnant women, Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar stated that the most important point in this period is the anxiety experienced by expectant mothers. He shared that general social isolation rules apply to pregnant women as well as other individuals during this period.
