With the prolongation of human life, it has become more important to eliminate the problems in the menopause process and to protect bone density. Yeditepe University Hospitals Gynecology and Obstetrics, IVF Specialist Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar, who made a statement on 18 October World Menopause Day, said, “Bone fractures are one of the most important causes of loss of life in older women. In order to prevent this, women need to be well controlled, menopause needs to be delayed as much as possible, and they need to engage in sports activities.” Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar also stated that there are up-to-date treatment techniques and that menopause does not prevent women from having children.
The Average Age of Menopause in Turkey is 51
Stating that the age of menopause is accepted as 51 in Turkey, Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yeditepe University, said, “Bone resorption is seen in menopausal patients with a decrease in estrogen. Recently, patient-friendly, low-dose estrogen treatments can be applied. Patients are often afraid of hormone replacement therapy. If there is a doctor's control, there is no need to be afraid.”
“Early Menopause Does Not Prevent Childbearing”
Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar said, “There are women who have a career or who do not give birth to children in any way. It is important to protect the fertility of these women. Fertility of women can be preserved by freezing eggs.”
Yeditepe University Hospital Gynecology and Obstetrics Specialist Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar, who stated that there are also patients who go through early menopause at the age of 15, continued as follows: “I recommend that women who have early menopause in their family should consult an obstetrician. Awareness is the key here. Menopause comes with menstrual irregularity as the first symptom. Families also play an important role here. If the mother entered menopause early, her daughter should not neglect the doctor's follow-up. Thanks to modern medicine and technologies, we can add pluses to a 15-year-old or a 51-year-old person.”
