You have reached the 32nd week of pregnancy and are now in the 8th month. So, what awaits you in the 32nd week of pregnancy? Can you give birth at 32 weeks? What are the changes in your baby? How big is the baby at 32 weeks of pregnancy?
Yeditepe University Hospitals Gynecology and Obstetrics Department Head and IVF Specialist Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar answered these questions about the 32nd week of pregnancy.
Your baby weighs about 1.7 kilograms. The head-to-heel length is about 42.4 centimeters.
If you go into labor at 32 weeks, your baby has a good chance of survival, even if it needs respiratory support first.
Your baby's fingernails are fully formed and have reached the tips of the fingers. The toenails will grow later than the fingernails but are visible at this stage. If it itches, it may scratch itself slightly.
Although the hair strands are getting thicker, they can become thinner after birth.
At this stage, your baby may be preparing for birth by turning its head downwards inside your uterus (cephalic position). Don't worry if it is not yet in this position. Most babies will be in the head-down position by 36 weeks. So there is still plenty of time for it to turn.
If it is your first pregnancy, it is very easy to confuse the so-called "Braxton Hicks" contractions with real contractions. While real contractions are gradually getting stronger and more frequent, Braxton Hicks contractions are irregular and tend to stop after a while. Nevertheless, these contractions can be uncomfortable and distracting. Changing your activity when they come can help. Stand up if you have been sitting for a while or sit down if you have been standing for a while. A warm but not hot bath can also help.
Many pregnant women worry about whether they will be able to give birth vaginally. This is a natural worry, especially if you are expecting your first baby. It may be a good time to start practicing pain-relieving methods such as breathing exercises and massage.
