You have reached the 19th week of pregnancy and you are curious about your baby's development and changes. How much is my baby's height and weight? Can I feel the 19th-week baby's movements?
Yeditepe University Hospitals Gynecology and Obstetrics Department Head and IVF Specialist Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar answered these questions about the 19th week of pregnancy.
The baby is 15.3 cm long and weighs 240 grams. Your baby is the size of a mango this week.
At this point, your uterus is at the level of your belly button and will grow 1 cm higher with each week that passes. Your arms and legs are in proportion to the rest of your body. Fine hairs begin to form on the head in the areas where hair will grow in the future. During these weeks there are also important developments in the brain and specialized areas for senses such as smell, taste, touch, sight, and hearing are forming.
Also during these weeks, small movements of the baby can be felt, but most pregnant women do not notice these movements, mistaking them for gas.
In baby girls, the development of the vaginal canal has also started.
In the same way, care should be taken to ensure that activities such as walking, swimming, and climbing stairs are not brisk. The pregnant woman should not feel tired. Brisk activities that make you feel tired cause a decrease in blood flow to the uterus. This is due to the mother's increased oxygen demand during intense exercise. In this case, the blood will go to other vital organs of the mother and reduce the amount of blood flow to the uterus, that is, to the baby. This reduces the blood flow and oxygen supply to the baby.
