Regarding the PRP method, which is also known as ovarian rejuvenation among people, Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar, Gynecology, Obstetrics, and IVF Specialist, said, “Spontaneous pregnancies occur in early menopause cases that we approach with the PRP method. The method provides an opportunity for the patient to conceive with her own egg and preserve her fertility.”
Noting that PRP, which is used in the treatment of many diseases from hair loss to skin rejuvenation, from pain treatment to orthopedic diseases, also offers innovative solutions in the treatment of infertility, Yeditepe University Hospitals Gynecology and Obstetrics, IVF Specialist Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar said that successful results can be achieved especially in women with early menopause and low egg count.
Early Menopause Can Occur Even In the 20s
Pointing out that women can enter early menopause from the 20s for different reasons, Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar said, “For this reason, if there is no marriage or union, we definitely recommend egg freezing, especially for patients over the age of 35. First of all, it is very important to raise awareness of this situation. Unfortunately, the egg-freezing process is delayed in patients because there is not enough information and awareness on this issue. Afterward, either no eggs can be detected or very few eggs are detected. In these cases, we can achieve successful results with the PRP method.”
Spontaneous Pregnancy Can Develop with PRP Method
Yeditepe University Hospitals Gynecology, Obstetrics, and IVF Specialist Prof. Dr. Attar, who stated that they have very good experience in PRP applications, continued his words as follows: “Spontaneous pregnancies occur in early menopause cases that we approach with the PRP method. Our data also prove that it increases ovarian reserve. It, therefore, gives women an opportunity to conceive with their own egg or to preserve their fertility.”
Scientific Studies Continue
Reminding that the use of PRP on infertility and fertility is still a controversial issue and scientific studies are still ongoing, Prof. Dr. Attar expressed his views on the subject as follows: “Both in the classical in vitro fertilization method that we commonly use today and in the microinjection method, treatments were carried out at the initial stage without evidence. Therefore, it is not right to criticize and be prejudiced in this direction. Moreover, there is currently no other treatment for premature ovarian failure and low ovarian reserve.”
“Correct Patient Selection is Important”
Emphasizing that PRP cannot be applied to every patient and stating the importance of choosing the right patient in order to achieve successful results, Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar continued his words as follows: “We also perform PRP on patients with advanced age and those with fewer eggs. There are classification systems for low ovarian reserve. Patients with relatively good egg volumes and at relatively younger ages are preferred and the application is made. We do not generally apply PRP to those whose egg volumes are very small and menopause period is very long, and those who are older. Therefore, the results are very good in the patients who undergo the procedure selectively. We can say that PRP is a complete treatment method in premature ovarian failure and patients with reduced egg reserve.”
It Will Become a Routine Method in the Future
Yeditepe University Hospitals Obstetrics and Gynecology, IVF Specialist Prof. Dr. Erkut Attar, who said that he believes that PRP will become a routine method in IVF treatments all over the world in the future, ended his words by saying, “There is no problem with its reliability, and there are no visible side effects. We inject PRP into the ovary just as they inject into the knee and face. Since the injected cells are mature body cells, it is almost impossible to show any serious side effects. It is also difficult to publish these results due to unnecessary prejudices.”
