Chocolate Cyst is the Cause of Pelvic Pain with 70 Percent

Pointing out that there are many underlying causes of pelvic pain, Yeditepe University Hospitals Gynecology, Obstetrics and IVF Specialist Prof. Dr. Attar continued his words as follows: “The cause of 70 percent of pelvic pain is endometriosis, which is popularly known as chocolate cyst, especially in women. If a woman feels constant pain for 6 months, we define menstrual pain as chronic pelvic pain. In addition, irritable bowel syndrome, painful bladder syndrome can also cause pelvic pain. All these are diseases that make the patient uneasy. Depression, anxiety, restlessness and stress add to these.”

Period Pain Shouldn't Be Seen as 'Fate'

Stating that there are misperceptions among the public about menstrual pain, statements such as 'it will pass in the future, it will pass with birth' are wrong, Prof. Dr. Attar also said, “Menstrual pain is seen as destiny and affects their whole lives. There may be serious diseases such as endometriosis behind menstrual pain. Endometriosis can also lead to infertility if left untreated.
