DEFINITION: It is an examination performed to visualize renal function, collecting systems and the entire urinary system by taking serial radiographs at certain time intervals after intravenous (intravenous) injection of iodinated contrast agents.
ADVISORY Required.
DIET RESTRICTION: From 24 hours prior to the procedure, fiber-releasing foods, fried foods and meat should not be eaten. You can drink grain-free soup, fruit juice without pulp (fruit pulp), sugar-free soda, coffee or tea without sugar or milk. In particular, milk and creamy drinks and gas-forming drinks should be avoided. Plenty of water is recommended (e.g. one glass every hour).
PATIENT PREPARATION In order to ensure bowel cleansing, a laxative should be taken orally about 14 hours before the procedure. Since the laxative to be used and the method of use will be determined by the Radiologist according to the age and weight of the patient, the patient should consult the Radiology Department before the examination. Nothing should be eaten or drunk from the morning of the procedure until the examination is performed. The patient should come to the examination with full fasting.
The use of a laxative (purgative) may not be appropriate in the following cases.
1 - Fluid restrictions,
2 - In renal failure.
3 - In congestive heart failure,
4 - Under 15 years of age,
5 - Gastrointestinal obstruction and suspected obstruction,
In the above cases, please inform the Radiologist.
CONDITIONS PREVENTING EXAMINATION: Any barium or iodine contrast procedure should be performed before the examination.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Iodine allergy, pregnancy, acute renal failure, uremia.
CONTRAST: Iodinated contrast material
AVERAGE PROCEDURE TIME: 20-30 min, (procedure may be prolonged in obstructive kidney diseases).
TRANSPORT: No feature.
POST-PROCEDURE INFORMATION: The patient can resume normal daily activities. The examination is evaluated and reported by the Radiology specialist. The films and the examination report are delivered to the patient together. Patients are advised to drink plenty of fluids after the examination, unless there is a clinically restrictive reason.
