When it comes to aesthetic applications, solutions can be produced with some alternatives besides surgery. Wet rhinoplasty, which has been used more and more in recent years, is one of them. Yeditepe University Kozyatağı Hospital Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Specialist stated that this procedure is especially suitable for people with a slight arch and low nasal tip.
Non-surgical rhinoplasty has been performed in different ways such as thread or filling applications for a long time, but with the development of filling technologies, it has become more preferred especially in recent years. Yeditepe University Kozyatağı Hospital Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Specialist, Head of the Department of Plastic, Aesthetic, and Reconstructive Surgery at Yeditepe University Hospitals said that although wet rhinoplasty cannot completely replace traditional rhinoplasty, it is a safe and effective alternative to surgery.
Stating, “Compared to surgical rhinoplasty, although it is a procedure that can have advantages as well as disadvantages, it has become an option increasingly preferred by patients who are afraid of surgery”, Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Specialist said, “Hyaluronic acid, which has been proven to be safe and effective for years, is used for the nose filling procedure.”
Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Specialist gave the following information about who is suitable for wet rhinoplasty, i.e., nasal filling procedure: “Filling is a suitable method, especially for people who have a slight arch, a slight curvature in their nose and a slightly low nose tip. It can be safely applied to anyone after the age of 16-18. The treatment is started when the patient is sitting or lying down. After cleaning the nose with an alcohol solution, ice or anesthetic creams are applied. If the filling contains local anesthetic, they are not needed. This procedure can also be applied after surgery, and in cases where revision is required, it can delay revision surgery or make it completely unnecessary.”
Stating that the completion of this procedure in just 15 minutes, unlike the rhinoplasty procedure that takes approximately 3-4 hours, is a very important gain for the patient, Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Specialist added: “In addition, the results are seen with the completion of the procedure and the recovery period is very short, which is one of the reasons why the method is preferred. The person who undergoes the filling procedure can return to his/her home or work immediately.”
Reminding that, unlike the surgical rhinoplasty procedure, this procedure is temporary and has a duration of approximately 12 to 18 months, Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Specialist said, “This period varies according to the type of filling material used and the patient. Some patients may not need to repeat it even after two years.”
Noting that this procedure is not suitable for patients who aim to repair severe curvature or a broken nose or to breathe more easily, Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Specialist also pointed out that patients who wear glasses are not suitable candidates for this procedure and that heavy glasses and sunglasses should not be worn for 2-3 weeks after the procedure. Reminding that the magic word for wet rhinoplasty, namely nose filling, is “suitable patient”, Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Specialist pointed out that it can be applied to every patient, but that good results cannot be obtained. Yeditepe University Hospitals Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery Specialist said, “Very good results can be obtained when it is applied to the appropriate patient. For this reason, it is important to choose the patient correctly and the procedure should be performed by specialist physicians. In addition, the patient must follow the specified rules in order not to experience undesirable results after the procedure. However, it should be known that the improvement in the airway cannot be achieved and that this procedure is not permanent and if continuous results are desired, this procedure should be repeated. Patients should be aware that serious asymmetries cannot be corrected with this method. Patients should definitely ask which filler is used, especially the filler to be used before the procedure and the person who performs it. They should take a photo of the filling used in the procedure and save it.”
