It is an indescribable feeling that people who are donors for a liver transplant can bring someone they love back to life. Despite this feeling, the thought of giving a part of the liver may create some uneasiness at first. However, it should not be forgotten at this point; the donor’s liver begins to grow rapidly immediately after surgery and can reach its former size after about 3 months. Similarly, the part taken by the patient who received liver transplant also grows to normal dimensions within 3 months. 
After the detailed evaluations made in advance, it is looked at whether there is a suitable donor. Organ donation is not accepted if there is any risk or suspicion from the point of view of the recipient or donor.
 

What Are The Conditions Of Being A Donor For A Liver Transplant?

• The donor must be over 18 years old. 
• Depending on the general health of the donor and recipient, the donor must be younger than 60 years of age. 
• The donor must make his/her donation on a voluntary basis. 
• There must be a family relation up to the 4th degree between the recipient and the donor. 
• While ethical committee approval is not required in our country up to the 4th degree blood relation, it is essential to obtain an ethical committee approval from the Provincial Health Directorate after the 4th degree relation. In cases where there is no blood relation, there should be no financial connection and the approval of the Ethics Committee must be obtained. 
• The donor and recipient must match in the same blood group (same or zero group). 
• The donor should not have a history of systemic disease.
•  He/she should not have chronic hepatitis. 
• It is preferred that the body mass index is not above 30.
