In Istanbul, tradesman Nevzat Orman (46) learned that two and a half years ago both of his kidneys went bankrupt and needed to be transplanted. After dialysis, heart failure has started. Mr. Orman described his experiences as follows:
I was applying to different centers for kidney transplantation. However, due to the high risk, no one helped me. As I continued to live in despair, Yeditepe University Hospital called me for a transfer.”
Yeditepe University Hospitals General Surgery Specialist and Organ Transplantation Surgery Specialist: "When the patient consulted us, there was a serious deterioration in heart movements. Heart failure was actually caused by kidney failure. When the problem in the kidney is solved, the heart automatically improves. If we had not intervened, his heart would have turned out to be in mortal danger since he would not be able to tolerate this situation after a while. A patient in Mr. Nevzat's sample is less than 50 percent likely to survive within a year. That is why it was a risky operation.” The General Surgery Specialist explained that they absorbed excess fluid from the body by performing consecutive dialysis before the surgery. Then the kidney taken from his son Emrullah Orman (24) was transplanted. Nevzat Orman recovered from both kidney and heart failure with transplantation.
Reminding that a group of patients with chronic renal failure may experience a loss of function in the heart after starting dialysis, as Mr. Orman, our specialist stated: "A very serious heart failure picture develops in a group of patients due to the patient's inability to adapt to dialysis. But the important thing is that when they are treated, their hearts heal as well as they gain a new kidney.”
