In breast ultrasonography, breast tissue is denser at young ages, especially between the ages of 30-40. Therefore, since the sensitivity of mammography is low, ultrasonography is the first preferred imaging method. In addition, ultrasonography is recommended to understand the structure of a lesion seen on mammography in women over 40 years of age. In patients with silicone implants, ultrasonography examination can be performed either alone or in combination with mammography, depending on the age range of the patient.
First of all, it should be checked whether breast pain is related to the menstrual period. Because the breast is an organ that is very sensitive to hormonal changes. As the period approaches, it is normal for it to be more sensitive and edematous. It should be investigated whether there is an organic cause of the pain. In case of breast pain, a physician should be consulted first, and a breast ultrasound and/or mammography should be performed when deemed necessary.
