Early diagnosis means early treatment for breast cancer. With early diagnosis, cancer can be caught at a much earlier stage, thus enabling breast-conserving surgeries with which less tissue is removed, and less toxic chemotherapy and radiotherapy are needed. Early diagnosis also reduces the possibility of cancer recurrence and spread and increases patient survival.
Presence of breast cancer in first- and second-degree relatives younger than 45 years of age, carrying certain genetic diseases, diagnosis of ovarian cancer in one or more of the family's first-degree relatives, presence of persons diagnosed with both ovarian and breast cancer in the family, a family history of male breast cancer, and presence of persons having received radiotherapy to the chest area between the ages of 10-30 for various reasons are important risks for the disease. If it is shown that the lifetime risk of developing breast cancer exceeds twenty percent by applying various tests (Gail, Klaus. etc.) in high-risk patients, it is recommended to perform a breast MRI along with mammography as a screening.
Breast radiology is a sub-branch of radiology and includes imaging methods used in the diagnosis of breast diseases.
Breast radiologists are radiologists who have experience in this field, who perform mammography, ultrasonography, breast MRI, diagnostic needle biopsies, and stereotaxic biopsy procedures used in the diagnosis of breast diseases.
