What is the Sinuplasty Method?

Yeditepe University Hospital Ear, Nose and Throat, Head and Neck Surgery specialist states that the balloon sinuplasty method used in the treatment of chronic sinusitis disease gives positive results in sinusitis surgery.

Chronic Sinusitis Treatment

Sinusitis is a condition in which the eight sinuses that are pierced to the nose and nose are sick separately or together. In chronic sinusitis, drug treatment usually does not yield results, and treatment is provided surgically. The basic principle in surgical treatment is to provide ventilation of the nose and sinuses, to open the mouth of the sinuses to provide air inlet and outlet from the outside, and to expel the secretions inside. Our specialist gives the following information about the method, stating that the balloon sinuplasty method is used especially in some types of sinusitis:

"With the endoscopic sinus surgery method, very successful results are obtained in the treatment of chronic sinusitis. However, there are still some problems in the surgical treatment of sinusitis of the sinuses in the forehead, especially called the frontal sinus. Unlike other sinuses, the opening connecting the frontal sinuses to the inside of the nose is not in the form of a hole but in the form of a canal, and entirely opening and expanding this canal is a very difficult process. Today, the most important expectations in surgical procedures are less damage to the patient, less space for the patient, less bleeding, and recovery in a shorter time. At this point, both the meeting of the above-mentioned expectations and the canal-shaped opening of the frontal sinuses bring the "balloon sinuplasty" method to the agenda.

Surgical Treatment of Sinusitis

Today, extremely successful results are obtained in the surgical treatment of sinusitis. However, the balloon sinuplasty method is also one of the methods used for a better and more comfortable surgery for the reasons listed above. During the surgery, the balloon is inflated while it is in the canal of the frontal sinus, and the soft tissues formed around the canal are opened by the pressure of the balloon. Thus, the mouth of the canal is opened and the inflammatory secretions in the sinus are expelled."

The most important feature of this method is that it does not contain incisions and there is no bleeding. Ear, Nose and Throat, and Head and Neck Surgery specialist said, "After this procedure, the patient does not need to be hospitalized, and another advantage of the balloon sinuplasty method is that the work done with the films taken during the surgery is performed."
