Pointing to the fact that children can also suffer from Vertigo like adults, the Otorhinolaryngologist said: “When children have walking problems, dizziness, vomiting, fear, or sweating problems, it is definitely necessary to check if they have Vertigo. In fact, 5-6 per cent of all children may have this problem.”
The Otorhinolaryngologist from the Yeditepe University’s Koşuyolu Hospital draws attention to the fact that Vertigo, known as a problem of adults, can also be seen among children. Stating that 35 per cent of children with Vertigo might develop migraine in the future, explained the symptoms of Vertigo among children and the precautions that should be taken.
Stating that Vertigo, described as imbalance, dizziness, blackout, or light to severe giddiness by patients, can occur depending on many factors, added: “There are many reasons for Vertigo among children. Most commonly, it can be seen as unpredictable, suddenly appearing and then disappearing Vertigo attacks. This problem is mostly seen among children of parents with migraine issues. 35 per cent of these might have migraine in the future”.
Reminding the fact that such cases are seen more often among girls compared to boys and that in these cases children cannot express themselves precisely, continued: “Children do not clearly understand the feeling of giddiness or dizziness, so they cannot explain. When they suffer from Vertigo attacks, they get afraid. Children usually come to us with a pale face, imbalance, walking problems, sweating, fear or vomiting symptoms. Therefore, families who observe imbalance while walking or frequent falling over with their children must be careful and when these problems are accompanied by sickness and vomiting, they must definitely see a doctor.”
Underlying the fact that Vertigo is an important health problem that decrease the quality of life of children, shared the following information: Balance is an important mechanism. Loss of balance causes panic. This problem should be eliminated immediately so that people can return to normal life. It is possible to enable children with Vertigo problems to go back to their normal life with both medication and balance exercises which can be practiced at the clinic and at home.”
